My waters broke at 23 weeks and they told me that if he was born hed probably die. I held onto him until25 weeks the went into labour. Alex was born weighing just 850grms. He was ventalated for 21 days and spent 4 months in scbu.We atarted breat feed ing at 34 weeks and he still breat feeds now.It was a hard journey and I worry about the long term affects of such a strange start. He came home at 44 weeks . Hes now 18 months and the only problem he has is chronic lung diesase which means that when he gets a cold he needs oxygen and ventolin, so we end up back in hospitl.
Hes very busy , has started saying words and seems very bright, if not a little tooo busy. Hes small weighing 19lbs but then he never stops so I cant get enough food into him.
He has had homeopathy , cranial osteopathy and now I am going to take him to a nutritionlist as I want him to put on some weight. Anyone with any suggestions please email me.
It is amazing what can be done, I am so glad that he is okay.

Just a follow up on our son, Dmytri. He will be 5 years old on October 4th and is just finishing pre-school. Dmytri wears glasses everyday, as well as a patch over his left eye for six hours a day. In the beginning, it was such a struggle to put a patch on him. Now, after over a year of wearing one, he will remind me to put it on him. We still fly out to Winnipeg to see the Opthamologist every three months, and Dmytri still loves Ronald McDonald House. Last year, we participated in the Ronald McDonald House Fashion Show and he met and had a long chat with Ronald McDonald himself. Dmytri weighs about 37 pounds now, still tall and skinny. He played his first year of hockey and was just thrilled to receive a Game Star Trophy during their last tournament!!! He loves singing, roller blading, hockey, biking, fishing, school - anything and everything. He is a very loveable little guy - always telling his family how much he loves each one of us. The croup episodes have lessened, as have the ear infections. He still has follow-ups with the Pediatrician, ENT and Opthamologist. He has come along way from the 4 pounder that he was and still continues to grow. We still look at him in amazement and are very blessed to have him in our lives.
