My name is Jaime and in the spring
of 1978 I was born after only 24
weeks in the womb.I stayed in the
UNC-Ch neonatal unit for 2 and a
half months.I had
hydrocephlus,crebral bleeding,and
even haad to be resuscitated several
times.I was small for my age and
developed a bit slower but caught up
very quickly.As a 23 year-old now,the
only problem I have is being legally
blind.
My parents were given the option to
let me pass several times but
refused...I cannot explain how glad I
am that they had hope for me.They
decided they would take me however
I came for as long as I lived.
I now go to visit the preemies at the
hospital that saved me,I encourage
the parents and see what amazing
miracles we all are. Please keep up
hope!Feel free to e-mail me,I would
be happy to talk about things relating
to prematurity,as I know them.

I have a 3 year old girl who was born 6 weeks early. She is doing very well and you would not even know she was premature except she is a bit smaller. I also have a 5 month old girl who was born 10 weeks early so I am a bit more worried about her development but at the moment she is doing very well. I do not have any explanation why they were both premature, but this is something I am trying to find information on.

My son was born December 8, 2000. He was born at 28 weeks and weighed 2lbs 7oz. He had to be taken by emergency C-section due to my pre-eclampsia. We almost didn't survive the delivery because my blood pressure wouldn't stop rising and my son's heart rate kept dropping just as quick. I am grateful we are both here today. He is now 7 months adjusted and weighs 17lbs. He is hitting all his milestones right on time. I am grateful he is doing well. My prayers go out to all parents with preemies. I hope all turns out well for them as well. God bless our babies.

After reading some of the comments in here, I feel lucky. I had my son,Bailey, at 31 weeks 5 days on 4-29-01. He weighed 4lbs 3.5oz 16 1/2 inches long. It was a roller coaster ride in the NICU with being on oxygen, IV's, and feeding tubes. He would do good for a few days and have the oxygen out and the IV's out only to have it all put in all over again. He spent 5 weeks in the NICU and came home at 6lbs 2 oz. The doctor and nurses in the NICU were great. I have faith in the doctor and nurses in there that I can't wait to have my 2nd child even if it has to be early(as my OB told me it most likely will be early again). Don't ever give up hope, miracles happen every day.

Our son Scott Robert was born on October 25, 1997. He was 15 wks early and weighed a whopping 1lb. 8 oz. He came home the day before my original due date. He endured many ups and downs while in the NICU, but he survived. In a few short weeks he will turn four. Looking back, I never thought he would be so tall. He is small for his age, but seems to be shooting right up. He is also a big brother to our second son Connor, who was only two weeks early, but that was a planned c-section. Scott is hyper-responsive, and is still in occupational therapy. He is curious and loves to make people laugh. What a joy and a blessing he has been!!!
