I put my story on this page and I forgot to add that Elizabeth made it through her stay int he NICU with no operations, and only one major infection. She contracted the staff infection in her oxygen tube. she was on three different respirators. the conventional vent the oxcimedtor and then C-pap and she came home at 3 pounds 4 ounces on a smart monitor and oxygen monitor and oxygen at only .02 of a liter. It was such a small amount that when she got sick and had to spend a few nights inthe hospital we had to use our own oxygen becuase the hospital could not give her that small of an amount.

I am 19 years old and many people would say, "you are still a child yourself."
I was 23 weeks and 3 days pregant. my O.B. was telling me for a week that I had the flu. Then she changed her mind. I had a bad gulblatter. They put me on many pain killers. Then after being on the pain killers for one weekend I was not getting any better. I had such bad pains that I could not get comfortable any where any way. Finally at 4:30 a.m. I made my boyfriend at the time (now my husband) get up and take me to the emergency room. After many hours of not getting anyu think to eat or drink... exactly 15 hours my O.B. came to me and said with a very scared face. You are suffering fomr sever pre-clampisa, and H.E.L.L.P. Syndrome. We are transfering to Spectrum Hopsital in Grand Rapids where your baby will be delivered tonite, wether she will survive. I was so scared. Little Elizabeth Mary Teresa was born on march 8th at 10:44 p.m. at 1 pound 1/2 ounce and 11 1/4 inches long. It was a long and emotional journey in the NICU at DeVos Childrens Hospital. She was there for 81 days. She had her good days and her bad days. I can now happily report she is 7 months old and is weighing in at 11 pounds. And except for being very little there is nothing wrong with her yet.
So I hope if you have a baby this small that this story gives you some hope and encouragment that you baby could too make it with no problems. Just don't give up hope.

My son Zackary was born on July 9, 1999. He weighed 2lbs. and 12 1/2oz. He stayed in NICU for almost three months and is now two years old. He goes to Childrens Medical Center, has done Physical Thereapy, Hanger, RSV shots and other appointments. I have one doctor who will tell me he is doing great only to go to the next and be told he is behind. This is very confusing and I am getting very worried about how well he really is. I have put him into daycare three days a week hoping he would learn from kids his age. But he still seems so young compared to other two year olds. Does anyone have a preemie who is going through the same things?

After having a 6 week preemie 7 yrs before,we thought we knew what to expect when my son was born 9 weeks early...3 lbs 7oz. He had an Apgar of 3, and spent six weeks in NICU. He almost died from a very rare metabolic disorder at about 4 months, so we thank God every day that he is now a happy healthy 3 1/2 yr old. He has CP but it doesn't slow him down at all. He and his sister are our perfect children!
