I am thoroughly enjoying your website. I happened across it by accident, and am thrilled to find it. I will be 40 years old in August '05. In 1965, I was born 3 months early weighing 2 lbs. 7oz. From what I've been told, the only major problems I had were with my lungs and I nearly died several times due to breathing difficulties. My weight also dropped to less than 2 lbs. After 6 or 8 weeks, I went home weighing 5 lbs. I must have been in good shape though because I wasn't hooked up to a million different things. I was in an incubator and that's about it I think. My question is.... are there any studies out there which focuses on middle aged adults who were born premature? I have a large amount of questions that could maybe be answered if there was such a study, and I could read it. I had big problems as a child in school.... academic and getting along with others, I've always thought I'm ADD - even now. I have problems with depression, and am a recovering alcoholic. I'm called "Grace" as much as I am called by my given name, because I am so clumsy. Could any of this be attributed to my being a preemie? I'd really love to get any info available out there. THANK YOU!

My beautiful baby girl was born nine weeks premature. She is doing wonderfully and growing strong. She's already 16 days old! As happy as I am to be her mother I feel this huge gaping hole. I dont feel like i've had a baby, I feel stripped and bare. I,ve never felt a void like this before. How could I be so selfish when my little angel is fighting so hard?

21 days ago our son Nathan was born prematurely at 27 weeks, due to preeclampsia. My husband and I drive 30 miles every day after work to visit him at the NICU but even more difficult is seeing our 1lb 10ounce baby with an IV in his head, feeding and breathing tubes down his throat and listening to doctors explain to us what we should expect next. My heart breaks every night when I have to return home and leave him there. Thank you to everyone who shared their story here. It's comforting to know that other parents understand exactly how we feel.

Today is my beautiful daughter 10th birthday. She arrived May 19, 1995 weighing 1lb11oz. We were so blessed because she never had any problems in the NICU. She stayed in Texas Children Hospital in Houston, Texas for 2 1/2 months. Now she is in the 4th grade, she is in the Gifted and Talented Program at her school and she is developing into a beautiful young girl. I feel I was blessed to have her as a daughter. I read that God chose very special people to be parents to premature babies. I feel special. Happy Birthday Tyairra. Love Mom and Dad.

Sophia was born at 25 weeks by emergency c-section.She weighed 1lb 9oz, and was 12and a half inches long. She was intubated for 3 months and spent another month on CPAP. She had severe BPD, RDS, GERD, apnea, ROP, several pneumonias and lung collapses. She had abdominal surgery for a blocked intestine and retinal surgery. She spent 120 days in 2 different NICUs - one in New Jersey and one in Philadelphia. She came home on O2(for another 7 months), apnea monitor, nebs every 8 hrs, and meds, meds, meds. She is now 20 months old. She crawled at almost 15 months and didn't walk until 18 mos. She is off all meds except for preventative nebs, and has never been sick. She did not end up needing glasses, or being hearing impared. She is still considered dev. delayed, but the gap is narrowing each month. It is very hard to beleive that she has escaped many of the problems everyone expected her to have as time went by. She weighs 20 lbs, and never stops. She is crazy, funny and so happy. When she grows up she will probably never beleive all she went through. I will remind her of it every day.
