February 27, 2005 Jens Our First Grandchild Turned 10. A milestone has been reached As you can imagine this is a very special day for all of us. Jens was born at 28 weeks and remained in the hospital for three month's. Our daughter and son in law were always there to give him support. They did lots of kangarooing. Jens is a wonderful active child who is on a swim team, participates in aikido and most of all an excellent violin player. He has been taking suzuki violin lessons since the age of four. Happy Birthday Jens

at 27 weeks preg. I went into labor. Until then my preg. was fine. I was "lucky" because they were able to keep me in labor for an additional 4 weeks at 30 weeks 6 days my water broke. No one knows the reason. At 31 weeks 2 days (nov. 15 2004) my daughter was born, taken by c-section because she was breech and have stress related problems. She was 3 lbs 13 oz her lungs were doing fine and she was breathing on her own. We spent 1 1/2 wks in NICU and 3 wks in the SCN. She is now 3months old from birthday (5 weeks adjusted) she can eat with the best of them. and her lungs are still strong (can tell by the screaming when she cries!!) She is developemenatly delayed, but that's ok, we'll deal with that as we go. We were absolutely blessed that our daughter was born healthy, and we have befriended so many parents from the NICU that have alot more complications then we do. This site has been so helpful to alot of us, because it lets everyone know that we aren't alone in this, and there are people out there willing to share thier experiences to help with what we are going threw right now. Thank you all.

I wish I had found a site like this 4 years ago! My daughter is now 4 years old, she was born at 25 weeks, weighing 1lb 14oz. We spent 4 months on the rollercoaster known as NICU! She is now a VERY happy and healthy little girl. She wears glasses as a result of ROP but thats a very small price to pay for what she had to overcome in her first few months of life. She is a walking miracle!! Good luck and best wishes to all the families out there who have experienced what my amily has experienced. Take care of your extra precious babies x

I am looking for help for my granddaughter. Lylly was born 9/1/00, at 25 weeks and weighed 15 oz. She has been in the public school system for 2 years in an early childhood special education program to help her get ready for Kindergarten. Her progress is good, now, after a year of adjustments but the school system is saying she cannot stay in the same school where she has become comfortable. The system is saying that she must either be in Kindergarten next year (but she is not ready for that) or move to another school farther from home with all new people, and a totally different program. My daughter-in-law has been trying get the school to let her stay and is running out of arguments. The system will only look at their "cut off" dates and will not consider any adjusted dates due to her being premature. Private school is finanically impossible, and the only other option left is home school, or no school. Please, does anyone have any advice to help in this situation?
