My son Vincent was born at 27 weeks. He weighed 2lbs6oz. After a long hard battle and many stressful nights my son is now two and a half. He is wonderful. I was blessed. We still have therapists to catch him up, and a very slight hearing problem. You would never know that he was a little guy from the start. On the picture that the nurse gave me before my son was taken to another hosp. she wrote: I AM A FIGHTER, MOM. I don't know how many times I looked at that picture and busted out in tears during it all. Those words stand out in my mind, they are all fighters....special and one of a kind.

I gave birth to my daughter Siobhan on 19/2/2000. i was 28 weeks and she weighed 1kg (2.2lbs). At the time we lived in South Africa and she was in hospital for 12 weeks. She had a typical preemie stay in NICU, pda closed with surgery on and off ventilator for 5 weeks collapsed lung, bleed on brain....the normal stuff that nightmares are made of.She will be 5 years old in a few weeks which is unbelievable but has her fair share of problems, mild CP in her legs which limits walking, speech problems, developmental delays....all things i was not really prepared for when i left the hospital. this site is great as i still have a long way to go with therapies and starting school etc so would be great to contact (or even help maybe) other parents who have been there or ar going through something i have been through...you are welcome to e-mail me.
