Hi, came accross this site and was amazed at how much effort you put into this topic. Thank you, this is a big help to those who love and respect all of Gods creation. All too often we humans take so much for granted neglecting to see God in ALL of His loving kindness.
I have many cats and have had one that lived for 17 years and I also have had one dog pass and now I have two. I have a story to tell or two about my animals that I think you might find interesting, at another time.
Just wanted to say that I enjoyed your site.

Christ is born!
We have 2 cats, Kitka (Ukrainian for little female cat)and Boris Badenov. Do you read in Genesis about the wonders of animals that God created? Read this:
"The ruler over all the sea-animals is Leviathan. With all the other fishes he was made on the fifth day. Originally he was created male and female like all the other animals. But when it appeared that a pair of these monsters might annilahate the whole earth with their united strength, God killed the female. So enormous is Leviathan that to quench his thirst he needs all the water that flows from the Jordan into the sea. When he is hungry a hot breath blows from his nostrils, and it makes the waters of the great sea seething hot. But Leviathan is more than merely large and strong. He is wonderfully made besides. His fins radiate brilliant light, the very sun is obscured by it. His eyes shed such splendor that frequently the sea is illuminated by it. No wonder that this marvelous beast is the plaything of God, in whom He takes His pleasure."
I am thinking of Psalm 104!,Taken during Great Vespers.
The quote is from "The Legend of the Jews" by Louis Ginzberg, written about 100 years ago and recently reprinted by Johns Hopkins University Press.
There is no source of earthly wonder, including the animals, which cannot be attributed to and offered back to God!

I know that this is not the main purpose of your site, but can you direct me to some online resource about Orthodox belief/thought. Everything that I have found so far is confusing and seems to be written by people who use lots of big and obscure words. This is the first page that I have stumbled across which is written by a "real" person. Thanks
