If God knows when a sparrow falls, surely He knows when we lose a beloved pet. In Genesis the animals all came to Adam to be named. It wasn't until after the Great Flood that they feared man, and by God's command at that.
I do pray for my pets when they are not feeling well or they are dying. I believe that God wants to comfort us and so prayers how He can.
Thank you for your efforts here. I'm sure many will find solace and hope as well as friendship on your site.
Glory to God
From an Orthodox friend,
Barry

Thank you for your research and summary of Orthodoxy and animals! I was raised Roman Catholic and converted to Orthodoxy several years ago; I'm still learning! The end of my first dog's life is very near, and I needed to search for the Orthodox perspective. I was relieved that it was not the same as the R.C. teachings I learned as a child. The verses in Romans always encouraged me, despite what I was taught! I appreciate also the modern and Patristic commentaries. Thank You again! You've helped me to see how I can help my pet and to deal with the end of (this phase of) his life.

Our 21 year old cat just died this morning. So your "medicine" was applied to a fresh wound. Thank you.

Lydia...I was referred to this site on the recent death of my much-loved dog, Wishbone. As soon as I saw the name "Beth", I knew it must be you. This is a beautiful site, hope you are still researching! Love, Mary

I am also an Orthodox Christian - OCA.
Thank you SO MUCH for your website. I'm willing to contribute financially to the maintenance of your site!
I have a Memorial Service for the burial of a beloved dog or cat that has been vetted by three Orthodox Priests. All three said that there is nothing heretical or improper with it, and I'll be glad to send a copy to you should you ask for it. You may reach me at: rascules@att.net.
May God grant you many years!!!

Very interesting site. I have been interested in «animal theology» for years, but being a member of a Western church I am just now beginning to discover the spiritual riches of the Orthodox Church, in particular those concerning the role of animals in our Christian faith.
