I was so fortunate to see GFR at their height as a trio in 1970.They were still making a "name" for themselves then;without the help of videos,internet,only undergound FM,college and high school students word of mouth.Out of the hundreds of concerts that I saw,those were the best concerts of any I ever witnessed!Bloodrock opened the shows I saw and really kicked ass.Grand Funk came out on stage with only a red backdrop,mikes for Mark and Don,PA,lots of big amps(West).No disco balls,no video screens,just a performing band. The announcer tells about Led Zeppelin's tour coming up,which I thought was impolite!Grand Funk is standing there ready to play;now!In a flash Mark is about 3-5 feet in the air doing "Are You Ready". Absolutely everyone at the concert rushes the stage, immediately!People are just going nuts!All of the aisles are just crammed with people up front and all over jumping up and down.Mark,Mel and Don are just pouring it on,and the concert gets even better.They play,"Paranoid" with the wicked wah and fuzz,"Inside Looking Out"with the killer solo on guitar and harmonica,"Mean Mistreater" on piano,"T>N>U>C> with Don's drum solo. Mark is galloping around,running back to the mike,blasting out just unbelievable solos on guitar and harmonica,clapping his hands,strutting around,just having fun and going nuts on stage!Song after song with more and more energy.The fans stood the whole concert.Just the best concert(s) I ever saw. Thank You so much Mark,Don,and Mel, for your dedication to your fans and virtuoso performances!It still shows 38 years later.You made your rep. the right way by performing!! Thanks Mark G.
