This is Shihan Medina.
I grew up in the Bronx, NY and have been in Miyamaryu from the early days until the day Shinan died. All my examinations from white belt to my current level of Shihan were directly given by Shinan Pereira - the founder of Miyamaryu - at the Hombu Dojo in the Bronx.
All my certificates are directly from Shinan Pereira, signed by him and of course before he passed away. I assume that some people unfortunately didn't make Shihan before he passed away, and had to be promoted outside the original Hombu dojo, and that these people don't have a certificate from Shinan Pereira as they were promoted by others.
What you have said about there now being a "new" certificates with a "new look" is EXACTLY why we decided to re-open the Hombu dojo and go back to the traditional ways and teach Miyamaryu the way it should be taught.
It sounds like you are saying that an original certificate from our founder Shinan Pereira himeself, is not good enough for you (?)
What gives the right to any high belt to try to control the Miyamaryu system that was tought to many practitioners? If that was the case: Judo, Taw Kwon Do, Karate, and all the other martial arts would never grow because of the politics that happen when people like you try to control somthing that belongs to everyone, not just yourself.
Tremont School of Miyamaryu Ju Jutsu in the Bronx at the original 535 E Tremont Ave building will be opening sometime in November and will continue the teachings of traditional Miyamaryu. All students are welcome to train with us or visit our school.

Dear martial artist:
Would like to take the time to explain the real clear trust regarding miyama-ryu tremont school, since a couple of person have make some comments. The tremont school, which was the original Hombu Dojo, has closed its door after 40 years of operation. Shinan Pereira died in 1999 and with him the era of tremont as the center of Miyama-ryu came to an end Shinan Pereira before his pass away he appointed three Dai Shihan Milliaressis, Duke and Rahming to keep the Miyama-ryu alive.
Be aware that some high black belt levels in miyama -ryu are not certified to teach the system, each original dojo should have a teaching certificate signed by any of the Dai Shihans, not by any one else. Also dont accept any certificate with Shinan Pereira signature remember that he pass away in 1999 and the old certificate style is no longer used look for the new certificate.
