Bakersville is the most special place on earth to me. I was born in Mitchell County in 1965. My parents are Thomas & Lois Frye (who recently moved back to Red Hill). I loved growing up in this small town. Everyone was so nice and kind, as they still are today. You could play outside and feel safe. I was surrounded by a loving family, alot of whom still live there. We had to move in 1976, but I visit often and I always hate to leave. I hope to some day move back to this place that holds such a special place in my heart. I have such wonderful memories!

My mom, Lucille Ollis Duncan, attended Bowman High, would have graduated 1941 but she married my dad. She would like a copy of the photo made at the 50th reunion (11 years ago!). She has a clipping from the newspaper but it is very poor quality, and she wants to see the faces. Please contact me if you have a copy, I will gladly pay for a reprint and your trouble.

I am looking for any information on Newt and Delia (Holder) Thomas. My father's name was Fred Thomas and he had a twin sister named Florence. Both were sent to Crossnore in or around 1936. Any help would be appreciated.

I am trying to find some information about my fathers family. He was born around 1869 with the name of William Ephriam Buchanan. He married my mother Pearl White Coffey in Boone in 1932. He had a brother Joe and John as I remember. I think he is buried in Bakersville probably in 1948/49. I have never had contact with any of his relatives there and was wondering if someone might answer this note. Before he married my mother, he was married to a lady there that died young with cancer and left two young girls, Edith and Alice. Any nobody out there know anything?

I Love my home town of Bakersville. To me there is nothing like growing up in Gouge hollow beneath the Roan Mounain. We didn't have a lot of money just a big famiely with lots of love.I feel like such a lucky girl to have the oportunity to grow up in this hollow, play wild and free with my brothers, Scotty,Richard, and Johnny and my sister Kay with no fear of anyone. It is good to live in a neighborhood where you know every one and everyone is family. I love Roan Mountain and Hope that Inever have to leave.
