I just got back to Atl,after spending 8 wonderful day's in Bakersville.No matter what time of year,it's beautiful there.It was my home for the first 24 years of my life,I go back about every two months to visit my family.I am very proud of my home town,and what the people of Bakersville have done to build our little town into something very special.See you all in May. Lee Roy, nice site! Imagine my surprise when I was surfing the net and found Bakersville on the World Wide Web! I should have known you were behind it. The "Doanie Mama" page was outstanding. Aunt Doanie looks great in the pictures. It is amazing how much she, my Grandma Dovie, and all of the family had to overcome back then. Keep up the good work, and say hello to my Aunt Melladeen, James, Tanzie, Lynn, Donald, and Tim for me if you see them.

Lived in the Bakersville area as a small child then moved to Spruce Pine where I grew up. Left the area when I was 18 yrs old and now only get back every other year or so to visit family and the surrounding area. My Dad is Mr. Vance Hughes of Spruce Pine for any of you that may know of him.

After 25 years of genealogy/family history research I finally untangled my Buchanan side of the family this week thanks to this web site and some very nice people in Bakersville! My cousins and I are excited and want to visit and check the cemetaries too. I enjoyed the live picture of Bakersville and look forward to visiting this summer! I've visited your web site many times and wanted you to know how much I enjoy it.My father and mother,Bill and Louise Morehouse owned a small summer home in Bakersville ,down from Gouge Elementary school,in the 70's and 80's.However we shared many wonderful summer vacations prior,when I was a small child at Wayne and Nell Wilson's motel! My father passed away the summer of 1983 in the place he loved most Bakersville! The people who make up the town of Bakersville are very special indeed! Please keep me posted on up and comming events. Hope to visit in the near future.Thanks again for the web site it brings me back to my childhood summers and happy times!
