I had the pleasure of visiting Bakersville in September 2005 for just a few hours. Hope to return in the summer of 2006 for at least a couple of days. We went there in search of the Burleson Cemetery on Gouge Rd. near Glen Ayre. It was very special to see where my ancestors once lived and are now buried. My Great Grandfather was born in Mitchell County on December 12, 1878, his name was John Logan Burleson. John's parents were Reuben P. b. Sept. 1856 & Martha J. Buchanan Burleson b. Sept 1864. Reuben's parents were Charles "Dunk" Burleson b. 1822 and Judith Herrell b. abt 1830. Charles parents were Jonathan O. Burleson b.March 29, 1799 and Jemima or Gemima Duncan b. abt 1806. Charles may have been "Adopted" by Jonathan, he was the son of Jemima. Would love to hear from others researching or familiar with these family lines.
