I love this website! I am wanting so badly to live in the mountains and after doing a lot of internet research, I have just about settled on Western North Carolina and Mitchell County looks fabulous, peaceful, and quaint. Don't ever change the small town charm and atmosphere!! I have never even been there but am planning a trip in June or July. A mountain home is my dream and God willing, it will become a reality one day.
I now live in a small town in Central Texas but am originally from Burbank, California although I was born in Kew Gardens, New York. My family left NY when I was fourteen months old. I love cool air even in the summer and Texas is not the place for that. Yikes! It gets soooo hot and humid. From what I understand, the weather is pretty mild in Mitchell County even in the winter.
I would need to find employment and currently am employed with a school district as an instructional aide. This type of work I love and would like to continue that type of employment if and when I relocate. I have about nine more years before I can retire.
If anyone has any suggestions, comments, or other place that would be great in WNC to relocate, I would be most appreciative.
Thanks!

Great site and beautiful city. I once visited and plan to come back. I am researching Baker, McKinney, and Garland line and am looking for a copy of Heritage of the Toe River Valley Vol 1 and another book about the history of churches in Bakersville. Does anyone have a copy of either of these they will sell to me? Thanks for looking.
