Great site! - And I'm not just saying that since you've linked to mine. It is the most useful educational geography resource I've found on the internet.

I had an interesting meeting at BETT with David Hassell, Head of Curriculum of BECTA. He told me about BECTA’s new meta tagging system and hopes in future that teachers will use the re-launched Virtual Teacher Centre as first port of call when looking for teaching resources. They have worked with some of the major content providers to develop this system.
This discussion highlighted once again the problem we have as owners of small, teacher-based websites. Although David insisted that BECTA wants to encourage classroom teachers to produce online content, the fact is they are primarily working with the major content providers. One of the problems is that there is no mechanism for us to influence the role of government agencies such as BECTA.
I spoke to Siobhain Archer, the owner of TeachIt www.teachit.co.uk at BECTA, about this situation. After our discussions we decided to form an organisation that would bring together teachers who own websites providing online educational materials.
Siobhain is willing to use a domain site www.sitesforteachers.co.uk that she owns for the group. We do not have a name for the group but the Association of Teacher Websites (ATW) has been suggested. However, we are open to ideas on the right name we should use.
The idea being that websites that join the group (no charge) would carry a logo with a link to www.sitesforteachers.co.uk. This website would be used to promote members individual websites. We would work as a pressure group and would seek to develop the kind of relationship that the major content providers enjoy with BECTA, QCA, etc. It could also be a body that could negotiate for Mini Grid bids. The major content providers are currently deeply involved in this process and this poses a serious long-term problem for small websites.
One of the services we intend to provide is a weekly newsletter with important information for teachers with websites. This information would come from members. For example, my work enables me to find out information that would be very useful to other teachers with websites.
Please let me know if you are interested in joining such a group or have any ideas on the services it should provide.

I am 13 years old, in Year 9 and I was struggling with my homework. I had to do an informative poster on the rainforest. I went to Ask Jeeves and found you. You saved my life, the page (on ecosystems i think it was) had the exact things that I needed to know. ***Thanx***
