PS - Forgot to mention that my family's name is Cudmore - in particular William Cudmore, his wife Ann (nee Rigg) and as of this census, their 1st child also Ann. Other children born after were Elizabeth, William, George, Mary, James & Emma and of course my Great Grandfather John who emmigrated to Australia in 1856 aged 20......anyone who is related, please contact me!

I did sign in the other day when viewing, but have had another closer inspection and I am very excited. I discovered the 1851 census information and FOUND MY RELATIVES. This is excellent and gives me heaps more information to work on - I even have an address at which they lived way back then - who knows if it is still there, but I certainly intend to find out. Once again, thanks for this fabulous site - I look forward to seeing Dolton when I am in England in May. anne

As part of an arts orientated non-profit organisation (www.sound-gallery.net), we have recently undertaken the project of preserving an ancient harpsichord which is currently stored in the basement of Royal Albert Memorial Museum in Exeter. We are trying to trace its history and find out where it came from. The last piece of information we have had is that this magnificnet instrument was donated to the Museum by Mrs Luxmoore of Stafford Barton. Mrs Luxmoore's daughter, Helen Turrall, we have been informed, lives in Dolton. If she is still around and would like to help us by giving us further information about this ancient instrument, we would like to hear from her. This is a worthy project which would help preserve this ancient harpsichord for future generations. We would be very grateful for any contribution, indeed.

I lived in Dolton from 1968 - 1973. We lived at Coppers, Rectory Road. My parents June & Keith Gerrish (my Mum taught at the primary school occasionally). I have 2 brothers Richard & Tim. I attended Dolton primary school with Mr & Mrs Gough (and their poodles Tikki & Topsy). Remember school dinners with Mrs Baker (5 helpings of semolina & brown sugar!). Country dancing every friday afternoon. My brother & I came second in the carnival fancy dress in 1970 as Bill & Ben. I still have my certificate & cup for coming first(as a Christmas tree) in 1972! I have lots of happy memories of Dolton.

Please go round and get old photos of families from 1956 to 2000. It would be lovely for my husband to see old familiar faces from his home village.
