Greetings to all ! especially those
from Dolton family backgrounds.
My maternal grandfather was
Thomas Henry Friend
born at Dolton in 1889 .His parents were John Friend born at Dolton
and Mary Ann Friend ne Cudmore
she my great grandmother was born
at Roborough near Winkleigh there
in that area of Devon. The parents of my great grandfather John Friend were Shaderack/Shaderach Friend born at Dolton and his wife Mary born at Ashcombe in south Devon.
The parents of my great great grandad Shaderack/Shaderach
were Arthur Friend and Judith Friend she ne Kimp/Kemp from Dowland. The earliest roots details of my family that I know in Dolton go back to the 1841 Census at Dolton that shows my family living at Pool Cottage.
Both Arthur and Mary Friend my great great great grandparents lived there at Pool Cottage as did later my great great
grandparents Shaderack/Shaderach and Mary Friend.I believe my grandad was born when my family then lived out at
Halfpenny Land, does anyone know where the name Halfpenny Land comes from ?
With very best wishes
from Barry John Staddon,in London.

Hello visited Dolton and Beaford on Saturday 31st May. I am researching my family history - Pickards from Beaford in 1861 and 1871. Would love to hear from anyone who has any information or any present day Pickards in the area. Thank you!!

Hello All, I came across the Dolton Web Site whilst reseaching my family name of Horrell. What a 1st class site, a joy to use and I even found a photo of a "Gala Queen" or "May Queen" that included 2 Horrell's on the cart. My roots go back to a Micheal Horrell born abt 1650 at Black Torrington.
If there are any Horrell's left in Dolton I would love to here from them.
Keep up the good work.
Many Thanks, Robert Horrell (Bob)

My brother Richard Hopper has already mentioned when we lived in Dolton and area. Despite moving to Canada in 1963 Dolton is still "home" to me and my happiest childhood memories are all there.

My family moved to Rose Cottage,West Lane on Dec.20/45.My sister
Ann and I went to Miss Wadlands school where I was the blight of her life. In 1950 we moved to Vanstones,Upcott until 1956 when we moved again, this time to Alwington near Bideford.
Although I haven't lived in the area for 52 years Dolton is still 'home'.
So many names and happy memories come to mind I could keep on and on.
