Okay, so I'm not old enough to have seen any of this stuff first run. I still have some stuff, The one I really rememver is when he got dressed up like a girl on IGAS. I can't even remember the episode, because I wasn't taping then. I remeber they were having each panel member do something, something about how well did they know each other. They were betting on how long it'd take him to say no.

Bill Cullen was always such a consummate pro as a host, nice without being fakey, warm without being overbearing, that it's a pleasant surprise to see him being such a wicked scamp on panel shows.
"I want to compliment you, Peggy," he said to his twin sister in crime on TTTT, Peggy Cass, when she was done up as Jean Harlow for a segment on makeup artists, "for your cups indeed runneth over." Then there was this exchange:
Peggy: "I got a prize for being the smartest girl in the fifth grade. You know what I got?"
Bill: "A boy in the fifth grade?"
If it weren't for Bill, Peggy would have had no one to say "Shut up, you," except maybe when Orson Bean paid a visit, while Bill would just beam his megawatt grin.
But one of my favorite memories of him as a host was on Pyramid. A contestant was trying to clue his partner to "Picasso," was having no luck with the facts and started picking his nose to indicate the first syllable. When the round ended (the partner figured it out), Bill said, "I'm glad you didn't try the second syllable."
What a class act. I bet he's elbowing Peggy in the wings right now and threatening to jump right off this cloud if it isn't No. 3.

I was one of the first people to post a message on this site, and since then it has inspired me to start my own modest tribute to Bill at the link above. You won't find anything info-wise that you wouldn't find here, but I have some scans from the Encyc. of TV Game Shows that aren't here, so if you don't own a copy, check it out. (Matt: sorry about wasting space here with a plug.)

Bill Cullen was truly one of the best in the business. If I ever got to host a game show, Bill is one of the hosts I would try to model myself after.
