I watch Blockbusters every day that I can. It just starts my day off right to hear Bill crack those corny jokes that make everyone laugh. I wish I could have met him. His comments about his home town and family made him seem like a part of our own family. God rest his dear sweet soul.

Not only did I enjoy watching Bill on Secret for years, but I fondly remember him from the original Price Is Right. I currently watch him in reruns of Blockbusters on GSN Saturday mornings and he's occasionally on a week of Password Plus. He seemed to be such a nice person, a real gentleman.

Bill always reminded me of the great uncle that was the most humble and great storyteller that understood the difficulties and in addition would always give you a laugh or two in between and always make you feel important if only for a few moments. From the way he got a kick out of children's clips on Child's Play to offering up between producers a tour for the contestants on Blockbusters, Bill was not only the host, he was a cheerleading host to not only the home audience but to the contestants as well.
It's interesting to note that Bill set a record as a celebrity player on a game show which he was an expert at. Recently on an episode of Password Plus which included two singings of Happy Birthday and a Mark Goodson cameo at the end, Bill won 5,000 dollars during Alphabetics for a contestant with 29 seconds left. For years, it was believed that Liz Montgomery and Joanna Gleason in later episodes shared the record of 28 seconds left. That record was eventually broken but so much was going on that Bill wasn't acknowledged for his expert timing during the bonus round. No one expected a future of this great show years later being rebroadcast but it's great to see a player like Bill play it with the greatest of ease and share a laugh every once in a while. Still one of my all time favorite hosts and one you can't go wrong with at the helm of a game show.

I thought I would let you know that Bill also said he had two middle names (Lawrence and "Frances -- with an "E") on one of the Blockbusters episodes. I saw it on GSN the other night. Might want to update your main page with that.

I produced hundreds of radio vignettes that Bill
voiced during the '80s. Bill loved radio and was one
of those wonderful talents who had a clock in his
head. Ask him to re-do a two-minute unit three
seconds quicker, and he'd do it... exactly tree
seconds quicker. I remember lots of wonderful
dinners with Ann and Bill at Dan Tanna's, their
favorite restaurant in LA. I miss him to this day.
