Dear Senator Shelby: Every year I travel to Alabama to spend my hard earned money on vacation in your beautiful green hills, and just returned from a trip to Jackson county and the Talladega National Forest. While in the area I discovered Terrapin Creek near Piedmont Alabama, and I resolved to return for a float trip on my next vacation. I hope you can understand my dismay upon learning that a strip mine has been proposed for the headwaters of this pristine stream. Northeastern Alabama is poised for a boom in tourism that will provide long term prosperity for the region, but if only the natural beauty of the region is protected. To allow a strip mine at the headwaters of Terrapin creek would be to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs. Please take whatever measures are necessary to deny the required permits for this ill conceived project. Future generations of Alabamians will thank you for your foresight and resolve, and so will I.
