Hello, I enjoed reading your page on the movie Amistad, which i worked on in 1997 with Steven Speilberg, Matthew McConaghey and Morgan Freeman. Originally called in as an extra, i was cast as the role of Mr. Gutwilig on the first morning of filming in Newport, RI my hometown by Steven. I have many fond memories of working on the movie, some good and some so-so. I shot a scene for several hours with Matthew and the rest of the actors and director that never appeared in the final cut of the movie. In the book which came out about the same time te character i played had about a page and a half appearance. I can say that working on the movie was one of my greatest experiencesin life, but because my scene never made the final cut, one of my biggest dissappointments too. All the actors were great o work with, but i found Morgan to be the most down to earth and was able to talk with him one on one on several occasions during the filming. I am a tattoo artist andnot a profesional actor, i was just lucky enough to get a phone call at my tattoo shop from the casting department. If anyone would like to trade stories with me from their own memories of the filming, please email me at TAT2CHILD@aol.com. I would love to hear from you- Jerry Schwartz
